EDUCATION

It is estimated the industry will need another 2,000 permanent employees and 4,000 seasonal employees within the next few years. This future growth is dependent on the ability to attract and retain young people who are highly skilled and enthusiastic and develop them to become our industry’s future leaders.

Future Leaders is a dynamic group of people from within or associated with the horticulture industry.  Led by a team of volunteers, Future Leaders take part in the opportunities to learn, share and network through organized educational workshops and networking events.

Future Leaders

Since Future Leaders was formed in 2014, the membership base has grown to over 200 active members from across the wider horticulture industry.  Anyone associated with the horticulture industry can join Future Leaders and events are usually free to attend.   These events are an excellent opportunity to get together with other like-minded people and learn about the horticulture industry and associated primary industries while giving members an opportunity to rub shoulders with existing industry leaders.

2022 Events:

Resilience with Nigel Latta – 21 February 2022

We kicked 2022 off with a virtual session with renown clinical psychologist, author and documentary maker, Nigel Latta to provide tips on how to cope with the current covid situation and the season ahead.

Effective Communication, Follow up workshop – 16 August 2022

Carly Shorter from People Realm hosted a follow up workshop on the popular Effective Communication workshop held in November 2021.  This refresher workshop on the four communication styles covered:

  • What the styles are and how to recognise each style.
  • A simple process for landing your communication effectively.
  • A frame work for having vital conversations well.
  • Giving and receiving feedback.

6th Annual Future Leaders Quiz Night – 7 September 2022

A record number of teams entered the Future Leaders 2022 Annual Quiz night.  Hosted by Robin Barker-Gilbert this night was fun from the start. Teams were put through their paces with quiz categories such as:   Famous Faces; Size Matters; Let Me Entertain You; Where in the Bay; Riddle Me This; Horticulture; Logos & Symbols & The Chase.

It was a tough competition but eventually the 2022 winners were announced.  Congratulations Fruition Horticulture for taking out the 2022 Annual Future Leaders Quiz night.
