Safety improvements for State Highway 33: Paengaroa
Safe Roads are planning road safety improvements on SH33, between Te Ngae Junction and Paengaroa, following consultation with locals earlier this year.
Construction has been split into three stages and the first Stage (1A), near Paengaroa, is due to get started in November.
Along the rural section of the highway, improvements will include widening the road, providing a wide centreline, wider shoulders and installing flexible roadside safety barriers at high-risk locations. In the urban area Safe Roads will do some minor road widening, provide a wide flush median, new signs, landscaping and other measures aimed at slowing traffic.
The work will be done within the designated road space, however the safety improvements will alter the look of the road.
Safe Roads plan to minimise disruption to property owners and people using the road by phasing the works, traffic management, and will provide advance notice of any road works.
The image below of SH30 at Awakeri is an example of what is planned for some rural sections of SH33.
To help Safe Roadsplan this work, they would find it very helpful to understand how you use your access ways and maintain shelter belts etc.
